A slitting machine is designed to convert a large master roll of material into multiple narrower, uniform-width finished rolls through a continuous, controlled process.
1. Unwinding Section
The jumbo roll is mounted on an unwinder, which feeds the material at a constant speed. A tension control system (such as magnetic powder brake or servo control) maintains stable web tension to prevent slack, stretching, or wrinkling during feeding.
2. Guiding & Tension Control
As the material travels through the machine, an EPC (Edge Position Controller) and guide rollers keep the web centered. A closed-loop tension control system regulates tension across unwinding, slitting, and rewinding sections to ensure consistent material flatness and stability.
3. Slitting Unit
The material enters the slitting station, where it is cut into multiple strips of specified width using:
Rotary Shear Slitting: Two circular knives shear the material (ideal for paper, film, and foil, producing clean, burr-free edges).
Razor Slitting: A sharp fixed blade slices thin materials (such as films or non-wovens) at high speed.
Knives are precisely spaced according to required finished widths for multi-strip slitting in one pass.
4. Rewinding Section
The slit strips are rewound onto independent shafts (usually air-expanding shafts). Each strip is controlled by its own tension system to ensure uniform winding density and neatly aligned edges, producing consistent, ready-to-use finished rolls.

Our high-speed slitting machine can reach a maximum running speed of 800m/min, and standard models can reach 200m/min and 400m/min. The actual production speed will be adjusted according to material thickness, width and slitting accuracy requirements. Generally, the stable running speed is 70%-80% of the rated speed. For example, 0.05mm thick PET film can run stably at 350m/min when the slitting width is above 50mm.
Our slitting machines adopt full servo drive and high-sensitivity web guiding system, with slitting accuracy up to ±0.1mm and rewinding end face flatness ≤0.5mm. Under normal use, errors will be controlled within the standard range. If large errors occur, they are usually caused by worn knives, improper tension settings or misaligned guide rollers. We will provide detailed debugging instructions.
The vertical standard models feature winding diameters of 600 mm and 800 mm, with unwinding diameters of 800 mm and 1000 mm; the horizontal standard models have winding diameters of 600 mm, 800 mm, and 1200 mm, with unwinding diameters ranging from 1200 to 1600 mm. Different models support unwinding loads up to 1500 kg or even over 3000 kg. Customized solutions for specific dimensions and load requirements are available upon request.
Yes, slitting width can be customized, with the minimum slitting width down to 10mm. The number of simultaneously slit strips depends on the total material width and minimum slitting width. For example, a 1600mm wide machine can slit up to 32 strips of 50mm wide products.
